14 Gopo awards for FFC films from Romania

At the prestigious Gopo Awards, Romania's national film prizes, FFC films claimed 14 of the 21 awards given out.

Paul Negoescu's MAN OF DEEDS, about a police officer who takes a job in the provinces and faces unforeseen challenges, won six awards, including Best Film and Best Director. MAN OF DEEDS screened in the 2022 FFC competition, as did Alexandru Belc's coming-of-age political drama METRONOM set in the Ceauşescu era, which won four Gopo awards.

The Best Debut Film award to IMMACULATE and the Best Documentary and Best Sound awards to the documentary OCCASIONAL SPIES were two films that were part of the Close-Up RO section. The director of OCCASIONAL SPIES, Oana Giurgiu, was a member of the International Festival Jury at the FFC in 2022 and Eugen Kelemen, who received the award for Best Film Editing (MAN OF DEEDS), of the Short Film Jury.

Best Actress was awarded to Andreea Grămoşteanu for her role in #DOGPOOPGIRL, which screened at the FFC in 2021.

The Gopo awards are named after cult director Ion Popescu-Gopo. They have been awarded since 2007.
