From 20th-25th of September, the Gdynia Film Festival will take place for the 46th time. The event in the "Tricity" of Gdyina-Sopot-Gdańsk on Poland's Baltic coast is THE meeting place for the Polish film industry.

This is where current feature, short and microbudget films celebrate their world premieres - traditionally one of the most important points of contact for the FilmFestival Cottbus when researching relevant current films from Poland. This year, the FFC is collaborating with the Gdynia Film Festival on the programme of the "Polskie Horyzonty" section. Funded by the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation, the programme entitled "Film Scene in Transition" focuses on the current trend of auteur filmmakers increasingly cooperating with streaming providers such as Netflix, whose programme also includes arthouse films such as EROTICA 2022, directed by five female directors. In addition, commercial television channels such as TVN are dedicated to producing films with relevant content, such as the patchwork family comedy BLACK SHEEP, which addresses gender identity discourses as a romantic comedy.

Since 2020, the programme of the Gdynia Film Festival has been the responsibility of the new Artistic Director Tomasz Kolankiewicz, who also wants to create more offers for international world distributors and festival programmers. In addition to the rich film programme, there will be exhibitions on Andrzej Wajda, Krzysztof Kieślowski and including costumes from Andrzej Żuławski's cult film ON THE SILVER GLOBE. In the Competition, the new films by Kinga Dębska, Jan P. Matuszyński, Łukasz Grzegorzek and Piotr Domalewski, among others, will be competing for the jury's favour; their previous films have already been shown in Cottbus. Matuszyński's latest film LEAVE NO TRACES will also run in the FFC’s competition. Bernd Buder, programme director of the FilmFestival Cottbus, will be in Gdynia from 20.-24.9.
