FFC WINNING FILM SWEEPS SLOVAK FILM AWARDS

On 9 April, 107 MOTHERS by Peter Kerekes, the winning film of the 2021 FFC competition, was awarded three Slovak Film Awards: the "Sun in a Net" awards for Best Slovak Film 2021, Best Director and Best Screenplay, which Kerekes co-wrote with Ivan Ostrochovský.

The Slovak Film Awards are named after Štefan Uher's classic 1963 film "The Sun in a Net", one of the first films of the Czechoslovak "New Wave", which cinematically flanked the political openings towards the "Prague Spring".

Eleven films in 15 categories were nominated for the film awards, and Peter Bebjak's THE AUSCHWITZ REPORT, another film that screened at the FFC in 2021, won the award for Best Sound.

The Slovakian-Czech-Ukrainian co-production 107 MOTHERS is a subtle ensemble film about mothers imprisoned together with their small children in the women's prison in Odesa.
