FilmFestival Cottbus at the Berlinale: GWFF-award for the Slovak producer Radka Babincová

At this year’s Berlin Film Festival, the FilmFestival Cottbus, in cooperation with connecting cottbus, will again organize the industry meeting “East European Brunch” in the representation of the federal state of Brandenburg in Berlin.
During that reception, the Slovak production student Radka Babincová will receive the scholarship grant funded by German collective society GWFF - Gesellschaft zur Wahrnehmung von Film- und Fernsehrechten mbH, Munich. The price is awarded in co-operation with the FilmFestival Cottbus since 2007. The annual GWFF prize is endowed with 4500 Euros and can be used to finance foreign studies at one of the leading European or American film universities of the contestant´s choice. It will be handed over by Dr. Gerti Müller-Ernstberger, head of the GWFF. Radka Babincová is studying film production at the Film and TV faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, and has been involved in numerous successful film projects such as “The Teacher” by Jan Hřebejk (production coordinator), “Agave” by Ondrej Šulaj (production assistant) and a great number of student short films (executive producer). She is currently working as Head of Development at Trigon Production, one of the biggest film production companies in Slovakia. Previous award winners were, among others, the Georgian producer Vladimir Katcharava and Marija Dimitrova from Macedonia. Among the films from Central and Eastern Europe shown at the Berlinale, is THE ERLPRINCE. The second feature by the Polish director Kuba Czekaj, whose BABY BUMP took part in the youth film competition at the FilmFestival Cottbus 2016, was pitched at connecting cottbus in 2013. It will be screened in the “Generation” section.
Bernd Buder, programme director of the FilmFestival Cottbus, and Jörg Taszman, programme consultant, will join the Berlinale for scouting purposes.
