Finnish director Juho Kuosmanen sends two outsiders on an amusing and deeply touching journey, on which they are confronted - without any kitsch - with the truth of their feelings.
Few people are drawn to icy Murmansk in the Arctic Circle in winter. But shy Finnish archaeology student Laura is determined to visit the city's famous rock paintings - an unhappy romance she leaves behind in Moscow motivates her decision all the more. The prospect of a tranquil rail trip is quickly dashed when Laura meets her fellow passenger in compartment No. 6: Ljoha is a miner, hard-drinking and loud, a guy who seems to know no bounds and simply ignores Laura's. But over the next few days of their journey together, the disparate passengers must learn to get along in close quarters. The beginning of an unexpected rapprochement.
To the sound of VOYAGE VOYAGE, Juho Kuosmanen ("The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki") takes us on an atmospheric journey through wintry Russia in the late 1990s, where two outsiders meet and grow closer across all cultural and class boundaries. A lovingly raw, melancholic-comic road movie on rails, inspired by Rosa Liksom's novel of the same name.
