The FilmFestival Cottbus is one of the partners of the project "Oppose Othering" initiated by the goEast-Film Festival in Wiesbaden. Young filmmakers from Germany and Central and Eastern Europe are traveling together in two-country teams through their countries: the aim is to cinematically engage with people with differing social, religious, cultural, ethnic origin and / or sexual identity, and to portray projects that promote solidarity, civil courage and resistance to discrimination. Now the first contributions are finished, while ten new projects applied for realisation. Bernd Buder will participate in the jury together with the Croatian film critic and LGBT activist Mima Simić and the Uzbek documentary filmmaker Askold Kurov.
The 17th goEast Festival of Central and Eastern European Film takes place from 26th April - 2nd May in Wiesbaden. Selected films also run in Frankfurt / M, Mainz, Darmstadt and Giessen. The homage is devoted to the Hungarian cult director Márta Mészáros, the symposium is devoted to the extensive work of female directors in the history of Central and Eastern European cinema. With A GOOD WIFE (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia 2016, “goEast Gurus” section), PLANET SINGLE (Poland 2016, “Highlights”), SCHMITKE (Germany, Czech Republic 2014), FAMILY FILM (Czech Republic, Slovenia, Germany, 2015, both "Czech Cinema Now") and FOR THOSE WHO CAN TELL NO TALES (Bosnia and Herzegovina 2013, symposium), there are some films in the program, which have been shown at the FilmFestival Cottbus in the previous years. With a GOOD WIFE, FAMILY FILM and MOTHER AND OTHER SPINNERS IN THE FAMILY (Hungary, Germany, Bulgaria 2015, "Highlights"), three films shown in Wiesbaden have been pitched at connecting cottbus.
