A young man, withdrawn to a degree that seems almost authentic, return after years of absence of his village in the middle of the "Delta", the ramified estuary where the Danube flows into the Blck Sea. One of Europe´s few surviving unspoiled natural landscape, it is a dence labyrinth of tributaries, islands and lush vegetation. His home village is virtually cut off from the outside world, and the villager´s isolation seems to be more than merely geographical. Having left in early childhood, the young man finds he has a sister he never knew to exist. The neighbours are surprised to learn that the shy, frail girl is setting up house with her brother. The pair take up residence in a decrepit shack on the Banks of the Danube, then silently start to build a jetty at whose end a new house is planned: a shack on stilts in the middle of the river, far away from the rest of the village. An unusual kind of closeness is growing between the siblings. The envolving incestuous ralationship of this reticent, uncommunicative pair is eyed suspiciously by the local community. When the entire village visits the new house to celebrate its completion, matters begin to get out of control. A film that convinced above all on the strength of its extraordinary images of life in the Delta.

Fyodor is a lorry driver, a ladies´ man, and a loner. One day a telegram arrives from his ex-lover Maria in the small town of Barabash, asking him to come quickly. On arriving, Fyodor learns from the local chief of police that Maria has died and left behind a 16-year-old daughter - and that he is the father. Vera Mukhina - Mukha, as she is genenally known - is a notorious hooligan, pyromaniac and rebel. Fists at the ready, she´s a match fpr any boy or anybody else who tells her what to do - including a father who turn up out the blue. She grudgingly allows him to move into her home. One night, fire breaks out... Vladimir Kott tells his wholly unsentimental father-and-daughter tale with no small measure of dry humor. He also offers some insight into provincial life far removed from the hip Russian cities: brawling, drunken youngsters; corrupt police; the all-important local mafia. To even have a chance of survival, at least two jobs are necessary. Fyodor is played by Alexey Kravchenko, who debuted at 16 in Elem Klimov´s IDI I SMOTRI and recently appeared in 9 ROTA. Alexandra Tuftey is a convincing new face at his side.
