If I Had It My Way I Would Never Leave

Having left behind home, family and friends these two African refugees have travelled thousands of kilometres across Europe and yet the future remains uncertain.

Taking a documentary-like approach this film makes use of long takes in order to portrait and detail its protagonists. One of the men sings an Arabian song, which speaks of his distant homeland; a striking contrast to the autumnal sombreness of the surrounding fields and the void of their temporary shelter. Which border will be the next they are smuggled across whilst hidden in the back of a lorry? The soundtrack gives clues as to the answer, whilst the film makes the currently much-discussed European migration routes more tangible to a wider audience. JG
