Young adolescents from the youth club “Holzwurmhaus” in Berlin are sceptical about refugees. After actual encounters, the newcomers from the Middle East have names after all, they're not “refugees” any more, instead they are called Ismail and Mohammed. Impressions from an attempt at promoting a sense of mutual understanding.

2015: two Berlin districts, Lichtenberg and Hohenschönhausen. A handful of adolescents at a local youth club are unsettled by the growing numbers of refugees in the city. The management of the club organises a gathering with the hope of breaking down barriers.

The unaccompanied child and adolescent refugees made this film on the search for identity in Germany at the media education workshop held within the framework of the art project “Children in Exile”, organised by the Berlin Academy of Arts. BB
