SECTION: Spectrum

Between black horror comedy and meditative mother-son story: The Spectrum presents 13 cinematic discoveries – provocative and radical, honest and unvarnished – including the opening film.

Sometimes it takes an alternative approach to get to the very heart of a matter: life is full of stories that require an unconventional narrative. As normality is sometimes so utterly abnormal that it has to be recounted from the fringes of society. As humour sometimes turns deadly serious. As certain tales come to light too late, and yet nevertheless continue to possess a certain relevance. East European cinema blends perspectives and genres, of both a private and political nature, varying between fact and fiction, sarcasm and sorrow, comedy and what can only be described as a chamber of horrors. 13 idiosyncratic journeys through past and present of the human condition, portrayed to last so that the viewer is guaranteed not to forget them in a hurry. BB

The film THE HUMORIST is presented by our partner festival Jewish Film Festival Berlin & Brandenburg.
