"A Taste of Sorbian Cinema" at the Summer Film Academy Görlitz

Yesterday, Daniel Kubik, curator of the Heimat section at the FilmFestival Cottbus, joined the SommerFilmAkademie in Görlitz. Under the motto “by filmmakers for filmmakers”, participants from the tri-border region and Ukraine are developing film ideas and already starting productions or finishing short films over the course of two creative weeks.

After a communal dinner with the participants and organizers, the FFC invited the audience at 9 p.m. to “A Taste of Sorbian Cinema” in the atmospheric Maschinenhalle of Kühlhaus Görlitz. Five Sorbian short films were screened—works previously shown at the FFC or the Lausitz Film Showcase.

Before the screening, Daniel Kubik introduced the FFC and gave practical insights on how filmmakers can bring their work into a festival line-up. He also spoke with guest Mira Dubian, who was involved in the films PYTAŚ A NAMAKAŚ and WOTDOMA.

“It was pouring rain outside, but under the canopy, we had a cozy place to exchange ideas. I felt warmly welcomed and appreciated the genuine interest in the films and the presentation,” said Daniel Kubik.

Many thanks to the organizers of the SommerFilmAkademie Görlitz and the Sorbian-German film network Łužycafilm, who co-hosted this special evening with the FFC.
