The Post Space Film Camp at the Ashu Guest House in the Kyrgyz nature reserve Chon Kemin Valley gathers young filmmakers from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Buryatia and Sacha for a one-week workshop. Master classes and talks with experts are offered, the guests include renowned Central Asian filmmakers such as the video artist Saadat Ismailova, Darezhan Omyrbaev and Arym Kubat, who will discuss selected works with the young filmmakers. In addition, there will be works-in-progress screenings of films from the region, which will be presented in closed screenings to international festival programmers - from the Cannes Film Festival to the Hong Kong Film Festival to Cottbus.
FFC programme director Bernd Buder is enthusiastic about the creative energy in the camp: "Something is developing in the region, despite or perhaps because of Russia's war of aggression. Young filmmakers in particular are looking to connect with the international film industry and in doing so are developing new perspectives on their own societies - as diverse as Central Asia, sometimes with meditative energy, sometimes with fast-paced verve. Much can be expected from the region in the future." FFC visitors will be able to see this for themselves at the next festival, where the focus will be on Kazakhstan as a film country.
