Q&A with the filmmakers and Daniel Kubik

The 7th edition of the Schmellwitz open-air cinema nights began with the Sorbian evening on Wednesday evening. In cooperation with the Cottbus FilmFestival, the Foundation for the Sorbian People and the Łužycafilm network, the evening was all about Sorbian film culture - with six short films, the feature-length film BEI UNS HEISST SIE HANKA by Grit Lemke and numerous local filmmakers.

The evening kicked off with a discussion with organiser Michael Tietz (Chairman of the Schmellwitz Citizens' Association), district manager Stefan Schurmann and Mayor Doreen Mohaupt (Head of Construction, Environment and Urban Development at the City of Cottbus). 'The sun even came out just in time for the start,' reports Daniel Kubik, host of the evening and curator of the FFC Heimat section. ‘I was thrilled to hear what the filmmakers had to say about their works - and the audience was a colourful mix and very attentive.’

With popcorn and cool drinks, Ernst-Mucke-Platz in Schmellwitz was transformed into a summer cinema. We would like to thank the Schmellwitz Citizens' Association and all partners for this successful evening.

The entire programme of the open-air cinema nights runs until Saturday with free admission and a European film programme for all generations.
