Great success for one of the audience favourites of the FFC 2024: the Czech-Slovak drama WAVES (Vlny) by Jiří Mádl won nine awards at the prestigious Sun in a Net Awards in Bratislava - including Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Leading Actor (Vojtěch Vodochodský). The award ceremony took place on 16 April 2025 in the Slovakian Broadcasting House.
WAVES, produced by Dawson Films in co-production with Wandal Production and Czech Television, screened at the FFC in the Hits section. The coming-of-age drama about two brothers who have to find their way between personal freedom and state control in the socialist Czech Republic of the 1960s impressed with its strong performances, impressive images (camera: Martin Žiaran) and sensitive handling of historical upheavals.
In addition to the main prize, the film was also honoured in the categories Best Cinematography, Best Editing (Filip Malásek), Best Sound (Viktor Ekrt) and Best Visual Effects (Ivo Marák, Miroslav Gál). This makes WAVES the big winner of the most important Slovakian film award.
