Tue, 14 April 2026 | 7.00 pm | Dieselkraftwerk Cottbus

In collaboration with the Dieselkraftwerk Cottbus (DKW), the FilmFestival Cottbus presents a special film evening featuring works by director Kai-Uwe Kohlschmidt and the artist collective Mangan25.

The event is part of a series in 2026 dedicated to Kohlschmidt’s cinematic work. Last year, his film DAS NOMADISCHE GEN celebrated its world premiere in the Homeland | Domownja | Domizna section at the FFC.

Programme

Leichhardts letztes Rätsel (DE 2020, original version with subtitles, 115 mins) Four artists from the Mangan25 group set off on an expedition through Australia’s Simpson Desert and discover new traces of the missing explorer Ludwig Leichhardt. With an Aboriginal tribe, they learn an ancestral story that sheds light on the fate of the Australian explorer who has become a legend.

Die verlorene Freiheit (DE 2025, original version with subtitles, 55 mins) An artists’ collective embarks on a road trip across the USA. They investigate the painful expulsion of the Cherokee 180 years ago and meet present-day members of the tribe. At a Comanche powwow, they come across the story of Hermann Lehmann, who was abducted by the Apache as the child of German settlers. He was to adopt a fully indigenous identity. As Hermann Montechema, he was one of the last Comanches to fight against the white conquerors.

Followed by a discussion, moderated by Daniel Kubik (Curator, Homeland | Domownja | Domizna)
