Serbia, 2015, 94 Min

Months before the Balkan route to the EU hit the headlines director Želimir Žilnik accompanied the trials and tribulations of African immigrants as they travel across provincial Serbia, observing the extraordinary cross-cultural encounters that occur along the way.

These refugees from the Middle East and Africa, in search of a better future, see Serbia as nothing more than a steppingstone. Nobody wants to stay in a country where the streets are little better than those in Africa. Želimir Žilnik captures every moment, both the upbeat and the tragic, as these two very different worlds collide; in the refugee shelters and by the camp-fire, when an elderly Serb recites the Koran and the refugees get caught up in a discussion on polygamy.
