The time is ripe for the young Ela to leave the melancholy of her rural, Polish homeland behind. The “golden West”, with all its promises and temptations, is calling. In distant Ireland everything is supposedly fine, or at least better.
Still, whoever sets off leaves something behind. Her boyfriend reminds her of this at every opportunity. Whether he is still teasing her ironically or saying goodbye in his own sarcastic way is something she has to ask herself every time. Ela wants to see her nephew grow up and stand by her sister; above all however Ela wants a different life to her sibling. She wants more than her boring job in the laundry. Yet is her faulty English good enough to land her a better job in Ireland? Director Oliver Adam Kosio was born in Germany to Polish parents. His protagonists live in a world that he is more than familiar with. DD
