Ivan from Russia lives next door to Assan in a small village in Kazakhstan. When Ivan’s wife gives birth to a dark-skinned baby boy, the husband thinks she was cheating on him with his Kazakh neighbour. The conflict that breaks out between the two families festers for years, and leads to the excruciating estrangement of father and son.

Marat Sarulu - born 1957 in Talas, Kyrgyzstan. He studied philosophy in Frunse (now Bishkek), and later graduated from the VGIK, Moscow. PESN JUZHNICH MOREJ is his third feature film.
