Forced to give up her baby for adoption due to lacking financial means, Vanda turns her back on Lithuania. She goes to Ireland in search of a better life, but her yearning for her son refuses to fade. In Lithuania, meanwhile, her son has been adopted by Nora, who is traumatised after a grave accident. The well-heeled woman now has to battle for the right to keep the boy who is her only source of hope and stability.
Two very different women both scarred for life by experiences in their youth that continue to shape their destinies as they grapple with a complicated world.
