VTÁČKOVIA, SIROTY A BLÁZNI

BIRDS, ORPHANS AND FOOLS

Second part of Juraj Jakbisko’s trilogy on the spirit of the Prague Spring. Yorick and Andrej escape from their traumatised, war-scarred pasts by entering a carnivalesque parallel realm. Their meeting with Marta leads to a triangular relationship veering from madness to naivety to anarchy. But strife and violence seethe below the carefree, libertarian surface, occasionally erupting in hate-filled, almost sadistic outbursts.

An associative collage that reflects upon the pre-programmed breaking points in the self-image cultivated by drop-outs in the late 1960s, and equally a study of the automatic repression that prevailed in the “normalised” CSSR.
