The student Jan Palach publicly burnt himself to death on 19 January 1969 in protest at the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops. The moving funeral service was filmed by Stanislav Milota. One print of the clandestinely edited footage was smuggled to Israel, the other was re-discovered in the Prague Film Archives in 2002.

Stanislav Milota - born 1933 in Prague. He began his career as assistant cameraman at the Barrandov Studios, and worked as a cameraman from 1963 to 1968. He secretly filmed the situation on the streets of Prague during the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops on 21 August 1968.
