DIE GROSSE PYRAMIDE

THE GREAT PYRAMID

In the summer of 2006 writer Ingo Niermann and entrepreneur Jens Thiel come up with the idea of constructing the biggest structure the world has ever seen; an 800 metre high pyramid in which over a billion persons of every creed and colour are to be entombed. The mammoth construction is to come into existence on a field in eastern Germany, thus not only rehabilitating the stagnating local economy but in fact saving the whole country from economic ruin. The pair have their ranks bolstered by author Christian Kracht and the structural engineer Heiko Holzberger, and together the friends take the remarkable idea out into the world. The international media report on the project, architect Rem Koolhaas gets involved and over a thousand people from all over the world show an interest in being buried in what, for all intents and purposes, appears to be the next wonder of the world. Thus it is not only an idea that grows far more rapidly than its inventors could ever have imagined, but also its concomitant maze of dream and reality, success and set-backs.
