ODNA VOYNA

ONE WAR

Vera Glagoleva
Russia, 2009, 85 Min
Natalia Ivanova

The central subject of this film is the destiny of those young women whose children are the offspring of the Germany occupier. Five mothers and one dismissed captain lead a secluded existence on an island, drying fish for the front. When the day of victory arrives the enthusiasm and hope for a new, happy existence is boundless. The joy is short-lived however as it quickly emerges that the women have hard times in a labour camp ahead of them whilst their children are to placed in orphanages. The film touches upon a subject-matter long regarded as taboo by Russian filmmakers.
