ADSIZ YÜKSӘKLIKLӘR

"I am the result of fear." With these words, a mysterious voice introduces itself off camera. It accompanies and manages the strange events befalling a small group of people who are living in seclusion in the mountains. Its collaborator is a young man, called "the wanderer", who is now returning to his birthplace after eight years away and awakens different fears among those who never left their home. The wanderer shakes the community’s rigid and archaic rules that are characterised by piety, subordination and the survival of the fittest. Like a chess player, he provokes the reactions of the others and accepts losses in the process.

Director Hilal Baydarov, who was also behind the camera, explores the essence of arrogance, coexistence and hierarchies in his debut film. An existentialist film parable emerges against a breathtakingly beautiful, winter mountain landscape in an interplay of oppressive confinement and endless expanses. RP
