WENN WIR ERST TANZEN

ONCE WE ARE DANCING

Dirk Lienig, Dirk Heth, Olaf Winkler
Germany, 2018, 93 Min

Hoyerswerda is shrinking, many people are leaving. But one comes back and initiates the project "A city dances". The rehearsals for "Le Sacre du Printemps" accompany the reflection on the sacrifices we make today. Biographies with cracks become impressive dance scenes: Proof that one can overcome agony and make life a dance.

The film accompanies the Hoyerswerda-born Dirk Lienig, ballet dancer and former soloist, choreographer and director, in a personal journey during the creation of the dance company and the rehearsal process. When they dance, they open up: people who are required to redefine their place in society – in a region whose change has hardly had a positive trace so far. An architect who is now planning to erase parts of the city. A truck driver who was always on the road and now has to settle. A scientific employee in an unloved job. A social worker who suffers under the pressure of an increasingly socially weak clientele. A doctor who almost exclusively treats pensioners ... Start over or rely on security? Leave or stay and hope that the upswing will come after all? In the end they reinvent themselves and their city to the powerful music of Stravinsky in a rousing way. This includes the history of the production itself: The first length documentary film produced in Lusatia and by Lusatian people! GL
