The fact that the planetarium now offers much more than classical astronomy has to do with the worldwide upswing of the full dome medium: Images, films, sounds and stories leave the flat, rectangular screen and spread throughout the room. Full dome films are complex to produce, they demand a new way of seeing from the audience, and they force media artists to radically rethink – to create in 360 degrees. But the appeal of the immersive medium is worth the effort. The FFC presents a best-of of the Jena FullDome Festival 2018 and a new work by the Polish full dome artist Natalia Oliwiak, who has been a regular guest in the full dome program of the FilmFestival Cottbus since 2015.
