Quarter life crisis. In your late twenties and constantly asking yourself what you really ought to be. Housewife? Mother? Career person? Best to have none of that since it's all pretty uncool. The Latvian feminist and filmmaker Alise Zariņa sends a couple on a search for meaning in three chapters. But what goals do you actually have if the trip to self-discovery itself stops being fun at some point?

Louise is on the way with friends to the Midsummer Night Festival in the countryside. This is when she meets Kaspars. He is running away from his marriage, and she from her mother's questions and life in the big city. The two come closer when she is removing a tick from his thigh. Midsummer, one year later. He is an unsuccessful actor, she is paying the bills. They are on the way in the car to a party, spending the journey having driving lessons, sex and arguments. This time, the dog of Kaspars and his ex-girlfriend is also along for the ride. Another year passes and the old Ford Fiesta has now given way a new SUV. Kaspars is acting in a successful TV series, and Louise is illustrating children's books. The inevitable question about marriage and starting a family crops up between petty wrangling and conversations about ex-boyfriends. And while everything seems to be clear to Kaspars, it's Louise who is struggling with the possibilities of this life. NaF
