Poslednij den' etogo leta

The last day of this summer

Yuliya Shatun, Nikita Alexandrov
Belarus, 2019, 46 Min

Fantastically beautiful smartphone poetry about a day in the life of Vadim and the melancholy of a fading summer, which draws its strength from seemingly incidental matters and, in doing so, develops a keen eye for atmosphere.

Financed by the main actor's parents, who intended to support their son's acting ambitions by means of a classic portfolio and thereby inadvertently contributed to the creation of a minor work of art. The boy strolls through Minsk, meets with a friend who shows him how to spit properly. Between these everyday scenes the viewer is repeatedly immersed in the protagonist's online life via a mobile phone display: photos, games and social media. In atmospheric images Nikita Alexandrov and Yulia Shatun (TOMORROW, FFC 2017) show a life far removed from the political context that has shaken the country again in recent days. JJ
