Does Sorbian cinema exist? At first glance, on the cinema screens and on television, it is invisible. Nevertheless its history extends from the beginnings of film to numerous filmmakers of today. Knut Elstermann, cinema expert of the regional public broadcaster RBB, on the trail of an unknown phenomenon.

Elstermann meets the nestor of the DEFA production group Sorbian Film and founder of the Sorabia film studio Toni Bruk, representative of the Foundation for the Sorbian People Sylke Laubenstein-Polenz, producer and filmmaker Reiner Nagel, directors Maja Nagel and Angela Schuster as well as curator and director Grit Lemke. An astonishing thematic and creative diversity emerges. Because indeed Sorbian cinema does exist. Maybe one day on cinema screens too. GL
