MASEL TOV COCKTAIL

MASEL TOV COCKTAIL

Arkadij Khaet, Mickey Paatzsch
Germany, 2020, 30 Min

A pertinent blend on anti-Semitism and the role of the Jews in Germany. Dima is supposed to apologise. Tobi subjected him to anti-Semitic abuse ... and now a broken nose. Yes, Dima is Jewish, and though he doesn't really take much of an interest in questions of religion, they still always use it as a stick to beat him with.

Language: Original with English subtitles

Supporting film of TO THE STARS

Some make fun of and twerk in front of the Holocaust Memorial. Others start to stutter when they try to pronounce the word Jew: Germans have a complex relationship with Judaism. In the midst thereof stands Dima. He would like to be himself and yet it's not so simple as a Jew in Germany. He adroitly reflects on victim-perpetrator clichés as well as the allocation of roles and comes to the conclusion that, whilst some people simply deserve a punch on the nose, on the whole it would do us good to be less contrived when faced with the issue. Just like this film in fact. JJ
