Šta tebi znaci Bosna i Hercegovina?

What does Bosnia and Herzegovina mean to you?

Aleksa Trkulja, Branislav Stošić, Dženan Esko, Ishak Jaliman
Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2020, 56 Min

Four views of a politically divided country that range from natural beauty to industrial ruins. Four tales by young artists that extend beyond the familiar headlines of war and crisis. Four episodes from different regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the work of four directors who, like their protagonists, have resolved to stay in their homeland.

Filmtalk: WHAT DOES BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA MEAN TO YOU? | German Q&A | FFC 2020

In his pictures the young photographer seeks new perspectives on nature and the impressive Bosnian mountain landscape. To this end he treks across rough terrain, across mud and rocks or sends a drone into the sky. The greatest adventure however is that of the child who carries his wife inside him. The painter and dancer was born two months before the start of the Bosnian War. She reflects on how the war and post-war period influenced her life and the ways in which she expresses herself as an artist; and why she chooses to stay in Sarajevo rather than move to Scandinavia. There is no new beginning says the rock musician, you always carry your past with you, it's a form of baggage. The last episode is devoted to the city of Zenica with the ruins of the large steelworks in melancholic black and white images. Four very personal impressions that project a contemplative, enduringly positive view of the country's future. The film resulted as a project of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Sarajevo, with production advice from the FFC and the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. WMH
