Grief and emancipation. Krushë e Madhe, a village in Kosovo, in 2005. The men who disappeared here during the war in the aftermath of a massacre are still missing. As well as carrying economic and social responsibility, the women here have to struggle against a patriarchal social order in this poignantly captured story of a rural cooperative founded by women.

Just like the other women in the village Fahrije finds herself under pressure from all angles. The family is due to run out of money. She will soon have to sell her missing husband's workbench, both a status symbol and means of existence for this carpenter's family. In order to survive Fahrije and her fellow village women set up an ajvar factory, much to the displeasure of the remaining men. In addition to having to deal with the loss of a loved-one she also encounters hostility from the patriarchal village community. Fahrrije and her fellow campaigners refuse to be intimidated however, as they gradually grow accustomed to a new era in which women, torn between deep-felt grief and a sense of emancipation, are afforded new opportunities and a new-found self-confidence. In this sensitively captured film, based on the true story of the KB Krusha cooperative, the emotional economic and social roller-coaster ride experienced by the Kosovan province after the war is retraced in a work that stands out with its with carefully composed imagery, neat dramaturgy and omnipresent leading actress.
