It's All About Peace And Harmony

Nesimi Yetik
Turkey, 2019, 89 Min

Three women caught between affection and envy, melancholy and open quarrel: Mother Dudu, now over 80, lives with her two daughters. Her announced intention to remarry initially sees the family paralysed by shock and then degrades into a sisterly war of the roses in this barnstorming, emotional ensemble film about three contrasting and yet so similar women.

It is not just the inheritance that is in danger when Dudu announces that she is leaving her two adult children: the two sisters have long enjoyed the fulfilment of their basic emotional and material needs from the safety of their parents' apartment. One finds fulfilment as a singer in a jazz band, the other leads a more serious yet frustrated life as a teacher. Stalemate. And yet when change occurs this mutual existence quickly finds itself on the verge of a nervous breakdown, only to be held together by mutual respect for mother. Henceforth the emotional worlds of this disparate trio have to be renegotiated. This, Nesimi Yetik's second feature film, depicts the emotional ups and downs experienced by its protagonists as a dynamic roller-coaster ride of emotions, presented with captivating visuals reminiscent of works from Direct Cinema and Independent American Cinema. A universal story that deals with sentimental feelings and inheritance fraud, partying on the beach and arguments over cars, everyday stress and age-related illness.
