The Harvest

Misho Antadze
GE/US , 2019, 70 Min

Georgia is the world's third largest exporter of bitcoins. A gigantic electronic infrastructure is required for the production of the digital currency. In this way, regions such as the idyllic wine-growing region of Kakheti have become landscapes in which opposites collide and, at the same time, merge with one another. A contemplative pastoral.

Server centres in former farmhouses, dirt roads and high-tech, agriculture and the digital economy: “Initially conceived as a project to explore the gold rush of cryptocurrency mining in the rural region of Kakheti in Georgia, The Harvest is an exploration of the relationship between nature, technology, and the changing landscape” comments director Misho Antadze. A quiet film with powerful imagery that speaks not only of how a landscape, but also perspectives thereof can change. How natural and virtual spaces converge. Misho Antadze observes, with great respect, a region caught between a stoic perseverance and pressure to change. Profits are made elsewhere with the harvest that is gathered here. In this producing area, it’s the details that matter above all else.
