Gary Funck - Gary Funck was born in 1971 and grew up in North Frisia. The current artistic director of Et Nordfriisk Teooter (North Frisian Theater) in Husum completed his theater studies at the renowned Rose Bruford College for Drama and Performance in London and trained as a theater pedagogue BuT at Off Theater Neuss. Previously, he studied Frisian philology in Kiel, which placed the focus of his work on multilingualism and autochthonous language minorities at an early stage. Currently, Gary Funck is considered the most influential North Frisian-language theater maker and playwright. Milestones of contemporary Frisian-language theater are his multimedia adaptation of the novella Jonk Bradlep (Engl: Dark Wedding, dt.: Dunkle Hochzeit) by Elin Nickelsen (Junk Koost, 2016), the production of Richard Bean's Unert Fordäk (orig.: Under The Whaleback), or the musicals Di Widergunger (The Revenant, Der Wiedergänger) and Et Huuwenhüüschen (The Port Loo, Das Hafenklo), which he wrote. Another of his concerns for the past 20 years has been working on stage with Frisian young people. Since 2010, he has hosted a weekly program on the local radio station Friisk Funk. In 2010, together with his German-Danish colleague Uffe Iwersen, he developed the five-language radio play series Der Krug an der Wiedau / Kroen ved Vidåen, in which all 5 autochthonous languages of the West Coast of Schleswig are given equal prominence. Ten years later, on the 100th anniversary of the German-Danish plebiscite, Funck and Iwersen developed the idea of continuing the radio play series with a feature film. Der Krug an der Wiedau is Gary Funck's first feature film.
