nineteen-twenties speak with director
Peter Voigt back in 1989 about a childhood
spent during the era of National Socialism
and how naturally they had internalised
the values of discipline and commitment
to duty, often joyfully following the Nazi
ideology in the process. The resulting emotional
vacuum was easily filled by a sense
of community and fascist romanticism.

Peter Voigt - – born 1933 in Dessau. Worked as assistant
director to Bertolt Brecht at the Berliner
Ensemble in the fifties, becoming personal
assistant to stage director Peter Palitzsch
at the age of twenty-two. Has since the
sixties worked as a director and author of
documentary films in the field of contemporary
history.
