The Mangan25 artists’ collective, founded in 2004, is an interdisciplinary group of ten members (including Kai-Uwe Kohlschmidt). Together they have explored unusual landscapes, areas well off the beaten track and extreme locations: for instance, Mangan25 has previously followed in the footsteps of German explorer Ludwig Leichhardt in the Simpson Desert, investigated climate change on Spitzbergen and also embarked on a river expedition in the border region of the Neisse and Oder rivers. The latter river expedition runs like a thread through the film DAS NOMADISCHE GEN (the nomadic gene), serving as the starting point from which the viewer is taken on journeys to places as far afield as Australia, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, North America, and Papua New Guinea.
