Perfection or chaos? Pauli has gotten bogged down on his way to the top, as has Iiris in the pair’s provincial home town. He no longer wants to make music, and no one wants to hear hers. So why not join forces? Director Lauri-Matti Parppei is a film-maker, musician, and visual artist. He knows what he's talking about, and he does so with a very unique blend of authenticity and irony. In the process, he gradually reclaims the personal freedom of the anti-hero from this, his debut feature film, initially with some hesitation, before proceeding with ever greater ease. Until he has made a solidarity-seeking daredevil of this once ultra-competitive recluse. Even if a hint of loneliness remains. A modern, everyday story of provincial life, at once powerful, subtle, and laconic.
The director on his film: „I grew up in Rauna, a small coastal town in Finnish, where my friends and I started making odd music – we had more passion than skill, but that didn’t stop us. We released albums that were big hits in … nowhere, and our concerts often had more people on stage than in the crowd. And we loved every second of it. For us, it was never about fame or success; music gave us purpose and a sense of belonging.“
