Trailer
Journalist Kathrin Groth arrives in Tartu, or Dorpat as the city is known in German, as a writer-in-residence. Her mission is to capture the special encounters she has with local residents and the little stories that happen along the way on a blog, thus discovering and recording a small piece of the city's history. She describes her work, in the course of which she is accompanied by students from the Babelsberger Filmgymnasium, as an “ongoing process." This report, the work of a group of young film-makers, tells of Groth's encounters and impressions, interweaving them with her blog entries and street photography to create a cityscape that brings us closer to Tartu and, first and foremost, the people who live there. We encounter them at university, at the Aparaaditehas cultural and creative centre, at Laulipidu – the traditional Estonian song festival –, as well as taking part in innovative theatre projects and the street art community. And yet the focus always extends beyond the city limits and also offers insights into German-Estonian history and the city's significance within both Estonia and Europe as a whole.
