Bosnia 1995, the seventh day of the ceasefire. An engineering unit under the supervision of the IFOR peacekeeping force has been charged with securing the newly-drawn borderline and clearing the adjacent area of land mines; mines which they themselves laid in the not so distant past. The soldiers are traumatised by memories of war, a burden each of them tries to deal with in his/her own way; some are simply relieved to still be alive and thus approach even the most difficult of situations with a dose of humour whilst others, suffering from depression, display more self-destructive forms of behaviour. It is in this peculiar atmosphere that the soldiers stumble across a bricked-in cellar among the ruins of a nearby factory, in which they discover a man calmly sitting at a table, as if he had been waiting for the soldiers’ arrival. The talkative prisoner appears neither fatigued nor weak, refusing all offers of something to eat. Members of the unit speculate that the individual in question is none other than the devil incarnate, the paranoia becoming almost unbearable when long-overdue replacements fail to arrive and radio contact with the outside world is ruptured.

The unconventional storyline and breathtaking imagery make this film an absorbing experience, captivating the viewer from the outset.
