FREE FALL

The protagonists of György Palfi's latest production find themselves in free fall in the truest sense of the word. The action unfolds in a drab apartment building, which serves as a mirror of social sensibilities. An elderly woman returns home to her misanthropic husband and another evening of tedium; Unable to take any more she grabs her plastic bag and trolley, then proceeds to jump from the roof. Her jump initiates a surreal series of events, which further acquaint the viewer with additional tenants from the block and the lives they lead; These tales included the quest for the heart chakra which can penetrate concrete walls, the true interpretation of safe sex, a three-man sitcom parody and a highly unusual medical practice which offers unconventional assistance to young mothers.

Pálfi's universe is multifaceted, mysterious and disregards logic behind just as willingly as one might abandon an old pair of shoes. His camera, often close up to his protagonists, makes visible the traces of time; Whether these are a reflection of a life well lived is left for the viewer to decide. The latest production from the director of TAXIDERMIA, whose FINAL CUT opened the FilmFestival Cottbus in 2012, provides renewed evidence of Pálfi's ability to devise absurd reflections of everyday existence. The visual experience is one you won't forget in a hurry, neither on the way home, nor within the safety of your own four walls.
