Havana: The western suburbs of the city are occupied by foreign forces, as the situation in the city deteriorates from day to day. The occupier is in the process of constructing a huge bridge intended to connect the island with the mainland, though there are also signs of resistance; together with his comrades-in-arms Lazaro has developed an awe-inspiring secret weapon with which he hopes to free the city.

“I'm so tired of the occupation”, says Lazaro, “however our revolution will prevail in the end.” Reality offers little reason for optimism however, with the occupying forces on every street corner: omnipresent, yet anonymous. They bombard the local population with propaganda with the help of English-language TV broadcasters. By the seafront drilling islands can be viewed, polluting the surrounding waters, whilst the city's high-rise buildings are ablaze and armed soldiers patrol the streets. The city is in ruins, and yet resistance stirs.

A science-fiction film full of special effects shot in exquisite black and white, HABANA is a cross between BLADE RUNNER and THE ISLAND OF DOCTOR MOREAU with additional elements of “reportage” cinema. WMH
