The steppe can be an unlikely source of adventure, as for example when a father leaves behind his young children in the midst of scant landscape, together with the family flock of sheep and far from home whilst he travels to the nearby city as a member of the election commission. Day turns to night however and he's nowhere to be seen; Now they have to survive the night and tumultuous weather alone, as well as lead the flock home. Taking a softly-spoken, humorous tone the film narrates a coming-of-age tale full of love and strife, as well as the challenge of growing responsibility.
