Magic Mountain, The
In 1982, Winkler climbed Mont Blanc, where he left a flag of the Solidarność movement in solidarity with the Afghan people as well as in protest against the Soviet ideology that had forced him to flee his homeland decades earlier. Leaving behind his wife and child he later takes to the Afghan mountains, where he joins the ranks of the mujahideen. In order evoke the protagonist's life Anca Damian has constructed a narrative built up around animated graphics, painting, photography and film complemented by voice-over; the end result is an insightful portrayal of an individual's emotional highs and lows. Anca Damian - born 1962 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She obtained a diploma in Cinematography and a Doctor’s degree in Arts, Cinema and Media. Since her graduation she worked successfully as screenwriter, director of photography, producer and director. Her short and feature films were awarded numerous times at international festivals such as Warsaw and Locarno.
