DAS SYSTEm – ALLES VERSTEHEN HEISST ALLES VERZEIHEN

Mike (Jacob Matschenz), 20, is intelligent but lacking in orientation and friends. Together with his best friend Dustin (Florian Renner) he shares both his thoughts and a flat in a drab Rostock housing development. There, on the roof with a view of the sea, they smoke joints and count stolen goods. Mike prefers not to worry about tomorrow, that is until he is caught red-handed during a burglary by Konrad Böhm (Bernhard Schütz), an experience that induces him to radically rethink his approach to life.

The charismatic man of business introduces Mike to a parallel world of international lobbyists and ex-GDR secret service agents, whose networks appear to have survived the transformation to a reunified Germany. These long standing contacts are meanwhile utilised as a source of profit in the private economy.

Initial distrust succumbs to inquisitiveness and admiration. Böhm is the first person to set Mike clear boundaries and also tell him something of the fate of his father. On realising that the death of his father twenty years ago was no tragic accident it's already almost too late; can he escape the system?
