NEM VAGYOK A BARÁTOD

I AM NOT YOUR FRIEND

This film brings us face to face with a group of modern, seemingly independent people from present-day Bucharest, who are united by a network of emotional, commercial and incidental relations: Sara loves Mark, in fact she's even pregnant by him. He however loves Sophie, who in turn is rather keen on András. András though has to take care of his wife Rita who, motivated by a supposedly charitable drive, increasingly makes it her business to take care of little Natascha... Everybody behaves as if they were more or less single-mindedly pursuing their own self interests, trying to gain some advantage in the grand network of relationships. Whilst some of them fall by the wayside in the process, others seem to do quite well.

The individual, at times egotistical behaviour of the characters is portrayed in an episodic, turbulent fashion, which allows for an fascinating mixture of an at times cynical, at others helpless view of the needs and sensitivities of the individual protagonists.

Though they regard themselves as quite single-minded, somewhat cold and heartless, they appear to each other as rather dependent, passive and even absurd.

Ultimately only the viewer seems to get his money's worth. This is the key message that the director was obviously keen to anticipate at the beginning of the film, witness the unconventional supporting film within the film that shows a group of playing children.
