8 W POZIOMIE

A city in the Poland of the not too distant future: a multicultural metropolis. A modern Tower of Babel... In hotel room number 224 a man awakens and can't remember a thing. By his side stand a suitcase full of money and gun. Suddenly a gust of wind blows a 100 Euro note depicting Pope John Paul II out of the window. The banknote falls to the ground below and so moves from hand to hand, through a labyrinth of human destinies, finally leading to a dramatic secret.

An at times somewhat disorientating film. It begins with a series of concurrent narrative strands, a wealth of scenes that confound the viewer in their change of colour from black to white: why the duet of Santa Claus with the children's home director who deals in drugs with his charges. What does the Arab terrorist have in common with the woman who has been diagnosed as brain dead? They're all a part of the same time warp (or abyss?)... The viewer knows less and less about the world, understands less and less about it.

8 W POZIOMIE is the hitherto biggest production of the independent film group "Sky Piastowskie", named after a new housing estate in Zielona Góra. Filming took three years, spent between Berlin and London as well as Zielona Góra. The film unites hundreds of extras, kilos of pyrotechnics, collisions, gunfights... The amateurs involved received support from professional actors such as Marek Probosz, who recently took part in Agnieszka Holland's remake of Janosik.
