A deafening sound, the result of an explosion which only one of two colleagues survives: TV reporter Alex is subsequently plagued by a sense of responsibility for the death of cameraman Andrei, who it turns out he hardly knew. This ultimately leads to an encounter with Andrei’s fifteen-year-old daughter, a meeting that proves life-changing.

Thirty-four-year-old Iulia Rugină, one of few female directors in the male-dominated Romanian film industry, presents an enthralling drama in this, her third feature-length production. The action revolves around reporter Alex and his sensationalist brand of journalism, as wonderfully portrayed by Andi Vasluiana, otherwise known as the blue-eyed boy of Romanian cinema.

Alex meets the cameraman’s family, tasked with doing so by a TV channel that will stop at nothing in the battle for ratings: a report on a bereaved family shortly before Christmas couldn’t come at a better time from a broadcaster’s perspective. The reporter questions his actions however, in part due to the bond of trust developed with his deceased colleague’s daughter. Ultimately there's only one choice Alex can make.

Intended as the director’s feature film debut, her having previously won awards for her short productions, completion of the film ultimately took around a decade owing to difficulties with securing finance. EG
