A slow-paced social drama on an individual’s desperate struggle for a better life: due to her involvement in a case of assisted suicide, nurse Violeta loses her job. Subsequently she moves in with an elderly woman who she cares for in return for a meagre wage. Believing the time has come for a fresh start, Violeta resorts to drastic measures.

Wide Management

Though the outlook might not be great, matters can always take a turn for the worse: single mother Violeta has nothing left, not even a drop of breast milk for her child. All that remains is the meagre earnings she receives from émigré Ariana in return for care for the latter’s bed-ridden mother. When Ariana is killed in a car accident, Violeta elects for a desperate way out in order to keep her head above water. Narrating a mother’s hand-to-mouth existence in a series of hauntingly bleak scenes, DITA ZË FILL represents a damning indictment of a social system in which it’s every man for himself and dreams are achieved at the expense of a sense of humanity and a general respect for moral rules. This, Gentian Koçi’s debut feature film, was pitched at connecting Cottbus in 2014. WMH
