Moskva Mama Montreal

Moscow Mom Montreal

Dmitry Gaityan
Russia, 2016, 27 Min

Family or career? Anton receives a lucrative job offer from Canada and yet his mother, a cancer patient, needs him by her side in Moscow. Overwhelmed by emotion and unsure of what to do, he hesitates. Authentically narrated and elegantly shot.

VGIK - Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography

Young engineer Anton finds himself faced by an irresolvable dilemma: unable to find work in Moscow, he moves from one unsuccessful interview to the next. A move to Canada however would most probably mean saying a final farewell to his mother. All the while Anton is unable to pluck up the courage to speak openly about his feelings.

The touching, at times humorous, interactions between mother and son alternate with desperation and frustration. Director and scriptwriter Dmitry Gaityan has created an intimate, accomplished portrait of a man whose future hangs indefinably in the air whilst he himself threatens to buckle under the responsibility he is forced to carry.
